You don't have to live here to know just what the river's doing. The network of gauges are reliable and timely. For years, the most accurate reading for the most popular whitewater sections was the sum of the Haysi and Pound gauges (haysi + pound = Russell Fork gorge flow). Since the high natural flow event in spring of 2007, the single Bartlick gauge is most accurate.
The rainfall page is the most timely, updating every 15 minutes. It includes river level gauges upstream of Haysi that are a great early predictor of rainfall effect.
Always check the Flanagan gauge to see what the Corps is up to. Outside October, the corp does NOT announce gate operations. There is no foolproof method to predict what they might do on any day.
