Changes--Spring, 2010

It's been a dynamic spring for the Russell Fork stream bed. Lines in major rapids have been completely altered. When in doubt, scout!

Fist: The fist rock has shifted downstream, altering the character of the final drop in the rapid in front of the left side cave. This is creating a much meatier hole that feeds the crack at medium and higher flows. The hole is substantial at 800. The traditional straight through line is not there/borderline. MUST SCOUT! The low water line into the eddy followed by the hairy ferry is friendlier. The fire escape needs a minimum of 1000cfs. Iffy at standard release level.

El Horrendo: The river left shelf in the race line has partially broken away, resulting in a large boulder in the middle of the release level race line. This rock creates a likely piton and possible pin. Deflections will end up in the deep hole at the bottom of the main drop.

Climax/Box: The rock you boof off to enter the box has rotated a bit which has closed the gap somewhat for the low water line. Looks like 240-250cfs is the low cutoff now. The other effect of the rotation is less water in the main Climax line and more water in the landing area of the Box.
